Athletic Philosophy
The athletic program at St. Margaret’s is central to our mission and integral to the learning process. Through athletic competition we strive to achieve the highest degree of integrity, sportsmanship, and mutual respect as we prepare our students for lives of leadership and service. Our program celebrates the student-athlete and the teacher-coach while striving to instill in our students a meaningful and solid foundation from which to lead healthy and productive lives. We honor and value our multi-sport athletes, and take great pride in our athletic successes, our California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Championships, and the participation of our graduates at the collegiate level.
About the Athletic Department
The St. Margaret’s Athletic Department
has been competing in the California Interscholastic Federation of the
Southern Section (CIF-SS) since 1984. Since that time, we have won 13 team
CIF Championships, 17 individual CIF Championships and have had hundreds of
our athletes named to the All-CIF team.
We compete in the Academy League with schools similar to us in enrollment
and core values. During our fourteen year league partnership, we have won
142 Academy League Championships and have had over a thousand athletes named
to All-Academy League Teams, including many who have been crowned MVP of the
League. The entire program has earned the prestigious honor of the Academy
League Cup every year since its existence. This honor is extended to the
Academy League member school whose athletic department has been the most
successful throughout the entire school year during league play.
This remarkable record has been accomplished with honor, fair play and
sportsmanship because of the character of our student athletes and coaches.
Last year, the St. Margaret’s Athletic Program was given the Academy League
Sportsmanship Award. This award is voted upon by the league coaches and
awarded to the school that exemplifies the best sportsmanship in all sports,
at all levels throughout a given school year.

Many of our teams participate at both the Junior Varsity and Varsity level.
Try-outs are held to determine team membership and placement. Because of
space, court-time limitations and minimum skill level requirements, there
are tryouts and cuts that take place in certain cases within programs.
Over the years, many St. Margaret's athletes have continued competing at the
college level. The College Guidance office and
our coaches are committed to helping our student-athletes find the college
that is best suited for them. Our staff is always available to give advice,
complete the necessary paperwork, help with the recruiting videos and/or to
contact a college coach; we will do anything we can to ensure the success of
our students. Please browse the
Alumni
section of our Athletic website to find information about our athletes who
compete in college.
I hope this website will help you understand St. Margaret’s athletic
department and what we stand for. Come to a game and check us out – I
guarantee you will like what you see.
